The Wellness City of Dreams is a residential project set in Penang by Ewein Zenith Sdn Bhd, dubbed as the City of Dreams. It is located in Bandar Tanjong Pinang, next to the Gurney Wharf. It is expected to carry a large Gross Development Value (GDV) in billions due to its facilities. Wellness apartments, retirement and healthcare wellness residential suites, resort suites and other resources can be anticipated in this instalment.

It is undeniable that big dreams are being formed for its future residents. It would comprise of two 38-storey residential towers, housing 572 serviced apartments. Six levels of car parks and three levels of facilities would take up 120,000 square feet of space. The city redefines high standard of living with classy facilities, such as bowling alleys, private cinema, putting green, barbeque pits, and grand ballrooms. There would also be a comprehensive swimming unit (such as infinity indoor pools, saunas and steam room) to complete the area. Residents would also be able to call for a Rolls Royce and engage a yacht for one’s pleasure.

Interestingly, it is mentioned that the building would comply with green building standards, with infrastructure such as solar power and rainwater harvesting systems, trash separation and food waste management to generate compost for various uses.

Albeit being an ongoing project with little display, citizens are already speaking and voicing out their opinions regarding the whole matter. Users have commented on news that elaborate on the project. Some are sceptical while others find it a risky venture for the company.

Despite labelled as a high-class property, being priced at RM1200 onwards per square feet is seen to be an outrageous offer. Some are viewing it as a destruction of Penang’s green lung areas. A sarcastic comment mentions a wharf should look like a wharf (Gurney Wharf) instead of being overrun with property construction. The seafront is argued to be continually available for the public instead of the selected few. The loss of the view for the public is not seen lightly.

Another user mentions that Ewein Zenith is new to property development, thus they should cooperate with an expert to avoid mistakes. The user cites the case of the Ivory Company and its Penang Times Square project.

Even so, there is no need to focus on the negative side of the issue. For instance, the development project can be seen as a necessity because Penang is a growing state, using its resources to become a more popular and attractive site to both locals and tourists. The development of a high-class residence would be delightful for those with the monetary assets. The facilities that would cover all aspects of living the privileged life such as proper healthcare, comfortable transport and scenic views.

The island has already been a dream destination for some and this has the ability to spread the dream to even more people. Additionally, there is no need for woe regarding traffic as a majority portion of the land would be prioritised for the building of the undersea tunnel and the 8-lane highway for the public. The cost of these development projects is said to be funded by the City of Dreams project. As long as the whole development is overviewed by professionals and following the required guidelines, the development should be desirable in the state.

Perhaps it would be farfetched to draw conclusions to a project heavily under construction, as the City of Dreams is expected to complete its first phase in 2020. Even so, beside the City of Dreams, Ewein Zenith deputy chairman Datuk Ewe Swee Kheng would be adding three more residential blocks which are rumoured to be more affordable for the younger generation. The subtle project is referred to as the City of Dreams II.
