In Malaysia, Penang remains one of the best loved states. Despite the fact that Penang is one of the smaller states, it has achieved this position for being attractive in multiple fields. It is viewed well by both locals and tourists, as it is a place of food, culture and other activities. In this article, five top locations in Penang will be listed accompanied by the reason why.

Kek Lok Si Temple

As mentioned above, Penang is a place of culture. The Kek Lok Si Temple (located in Air Itam) is one of the most impressive temples in Southeast Asia. The fine images of Buddha and meaningful motives are found in the interior and exterior of the temple, including art forms such as sculptures and carvings. It is not only beautiful, but it is also a functioning centre for Chinese culture and Buddhist teachings.

Penang Hill

Also located in Air Itam, Penang Hill is also one of the best locations to go. It does not only offer a cooling and picturesque view of the land, but it is also a historical site. Before Malaysia achieved its independent status, this place was used as a retreat by the British. It managed to develop into a popular tourist site due to the railway expansion. Up there, one can view the flora and fauna, visit the owl museum and religious buildings such as the mosque. Not only that, you can seal your romantic affection for your significant other at the love lock section.

Gurney Drive

For those who prefer the city, Gurney Drive would be suitable. It is Penang’s famous seafront promenade where one can take a leisure walk, viewing a range of local delights such as hawker stalls and shopping malls. It is a high-end area where hotels and condominiums are constantly being developed.

Street Art in Georgetown

Next, the street art in Georgetown should not be missed. They can be found at the following streets: Lebuh Armenian, Love Lane and Lebuh Muntri. The idea behind these artworks is to preserve the history that has been involved in the area for the future generations to come. The street art depict the lives of the people and their trade, not necessarily extraordinary yet evoking a sense that the viewer is experiencing something meaningful. As one of Penang’s trademark destinations, this area should be on every traveller’s list.

Batu Ferringhi Beach

For those who love the beach, Batu Ferringhi is the location to go. Although one would have to endure the heavy traffic that is often present on the way there, upon arrival all those negative feelings would melt away. It is a bustling beach. There are lively night markets nearby and its waters enable the adventurous ones to carry out sports activities such as parasailing and windsurfing. For those who prefer a quieter time into the night, there are bars as well.

Nonetheless, this is not an exhaustive list. There are other locations in Penang which deserve attention as well if one is interested. For instance, for the craft lovers, they may want to consider learning to weave a rattan basket at Thean Seng Huat. One can also visit the Penang Bird Park and the Bukit Mertajam Recreational Forest. In Penang, everyone’s interest can be met.
